So, here I am, sad American girl up at 4:30am, promoing a band that probably doesn't need promoing...But this post is a tad bit more than a promo, it's like...WHY I listen to them...or something. >.< So, here goes.
Lately I've been watching a lot of the videos on YouTube by Nerimon and Charlieissocoollike, which is rather counter productive to what I'm going to say next, but my mother went on a trip today and I needed something to make me feel better. ANYWAY. Something that has been bothering me is that I NEVER ever finish a project or feel like I'm doing enough (Course, I live in the middle of nowhere, but still.) And I see all of these famous people that do wonderful things and rather than be inspired by them, I just get more depressed because it seems that they could only have made it that far because they had great luck or famous contacts or live in areas with a population over 2,000.
But then I watch people on YouTube and see them accomplish such great things and still have time to waste on playing Portal and Zelda and that is actually inspiring! Because it's just this group of British geeks that are around my age and they've created some brilliant music and partake in awesome charity events and make videos and travel everywhere. So, yeah, It just makes me happy that you don't have to be 40 years old or Justin Beiber famous to accomplish your dreams. (cheesy much?)
So there is my very long winded and boring explanation of why I listen to Chameleon Circuit.

Yarn Bombing
Graffiti no longer seems to just be illegible tags spray-painted hurriedly on the side of a subway car (which, don't get me wrong, is still cool), it now is an admired art form, though one that is generally considered illegal. But apart from famous artists like Banksy and Space Invader there are Yarn Bombers (a.k.a.Guerrilla Knitters, Yarn Stormers), very talented people who make the winter months a bit more warm and fuzzy by affixing their knitted items to lamp posts, statues, trees...My personal favorite is bike racks (it makes it seem as if the bikes are all cozy).

Things I want to make:
As stated above, there are many things I really want to make (apart from all of my designs) and I figure that I'd just list them here.
*18th Century stays
*A Victorian dress
*A Sherlock Holmes coat (though, a tad more feminine)
*A long sleeved medieval dress
*A traditional 1950's housewife dress
*A piratey, Jack Sparrow type coat.
And all of these things I have no idea would look like (meaning that I have not drawn them out in obsessive detail with colour notes and examples), which is kind of fun. :D

Bodice: size: 16; pattern: McCalls 4107
Shift: size: 14?; pattern: McCalls 2337 (altered slightly)
Skirt: size: 16/18; pattern: Simplicity 5582
What I learned from this project:
*How to attach bones to a lined garment (without too much freaking out)
*How to alter the neck and sleeves on a RIDICULOUS pattern. (I mean, seriously, the armpits were at my waist)
*A kind of cool way of attaching a draw string casing.

A rant.
Now I know that this is mainly a costuming/movie blog, but lately I've been feeling this...uncontrollable rage for human kind. So...here's the rant.
We COULD use solar/wind/water power instead of oil and nuclear energy.
We COULD walk or ride bikes as much as possible, both to lessen the need for gas AND for exercise so we don't have to pay for the gym or do dangerous diets.
We COULD use natural herbal (which would be much better for the dying population of bees and other animals AND it is better for our bodies) based skin and hair products instead of chemical based ones that pollute the water.
We COULD have gardens, greenhouses and small farms in our community instead of shipping across the world.
We COULD have barter fairs and clothing swaps and weaving/sewing classes and make our own clothes instead of buying our "fashionable" items at malls, from stores that use sweatshops.
We COULD use alternative building supplies like cork and bamboo and recycle supplies as well instead of cutting down trees that are older than our grandparents and killing millions of animals in the process.
We COULD save the world, or at least help stop it going to hell.
But we WON'T. Because it takes too much work. Because it is inconvenient. Because all we really want to do is sit our fat asses on the couch, eat pork skins and watch TV. I am not saying that I am not one of these humans, that I don't enjoy the comforts of modern life (though I would live without them in perfect happiness).
But...Think about this, Earth is the only thing we've got. Our beautiful world, full of such amazing things. Even if it won't effect us in this generation (which, basing on events, it will), we are not insuring a place for our children to thrive.
People, please think of this and examine your own lives. What can we do to help our world? What can you do in your town/city/community that may even make a tiny impact?
The thought of how we are treating our world, our ultimate mother, is one that makes me want to curl up in the corner and weep. And you should too.
It may seem like you can never solve the worlds problems or anything, but even doing small things, anything, could make a difference. And know that there are people that are doing the same.
So...Please...Just think about this.
